Sonia Bonfiglioli was awarded the Leonardo Prize by the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano
25 January 2011

On the 25th January, in a ceremony held in the Quirinale, Sonia Bonfiglioli, Managing Director of Bonfiglioli Riduttori SpA, was awarded the Leonardo Prize by the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano.

The Leonardo Prize is awarded for achievements in demonstrating and maintaining the quality of Italian exports. After a long selection process, the prize was awarded to Bonfiglioli in recognition of the company’s reputation for growth through innovation.

Bonfiglioli is an international group with subsidiaries all over the world and production plants employing a total workforce of around 3000 in Italy, Slovakia, India and Vietnam. The Bonfiglioli group is rapidly becoming a key supplier also in the field of green energy.

By investing heavily in the development and production of components for the photovoltaic and wind energy sectors while maintaining a grip on the traditional market for power transmission gearboxes, Bonfiglioli has been able to expand into and become a leading player on new markets.

Bonfiglioli was selected for the Leonardo award in recognition of the company’s ability to interpret market changes and choose the best strategies not only for growth but for the security of its highly qualified workforce. In their announcement, the selection committee described Bonfiglioli as a model for international industry and a credible ambassador for Italian excellence around the world.

The committee, chaired by Luisa Todini, includes leading figures such as Laura Biagiotti, ambassador Umberto Vattani and Nerio Alessandri.

The founders of the Leonardo prize include the Confederation of Italian Industry and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade.
